Library Department

The SUC Library serves the entire SUC community, including students, faculty, and staff, supporting their pursuit of higher education and research to achieve their academic goals.  The Library creates an enriching learning environment for the teaching and research programs at SUC by acquiring and providing access to a comprehensive range of learning resources. Our primary goal is to deliver right information to the right user at the right time.
SUC Library strives to enhance the personal growth of students and contribute to the development and sustainability of students, faculty and other members through free access to ideas, information, educational and scientific research, cultural experiences and educational opportunities.

Goals

A. To plan, develop, procure and maintain adequate library resources for smooth operation as per SUC’s strategic plan 

B. To provide a conductive learning environment for academic needs along with regular updating of learning resources  

C. To orient the students, faculty and staff with regards to the usage of library resources  

D. To disseminate required, relevant and updated information to enhance the Research Support to Faculty, Student & Staff

E. To create the reading awareness, involve the Students & Faculty members in the library activities and events

Services and Facilities

The library boasts an extensive collection of books covering a wide range of subjects, including Business, Management, Information Technology, Science, Social Science, Travel and Tourism, among others. These resources cater to both Undergraduate programs such as BBA, BSIT and BSCS, as well as Graduate-level studies like MBA. Additionally, the library features dedicated sections for specialized collections including UAE Special Collections, Arabic Titles, New Arrivals, General Reads, and Fiction.

Timings

The Library is open with all facilities and services from 9.00 A.M to 10.00 P.M from Monday to Thursday, Friday from 2.30 PM to 10.00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.  The Library will remain closed on Sunday & Public holidays.

General Rules

A. General Rules
 

i. Silence should be maintained in the Library.

ii. Spitting, smoking and other offensive or objectionable practices are strictly prohibited.

iii. Cell phones should be kept in the silent mode within Library premises.

iv. Using audio devices is not allowed (use of earphones is acceptable)

v. Engagement in noisy activities is not allowed.

vi. Interrupting or disturbing other members in the Library is not allowed

vii. Student ID Cards should be shown at entrance & also on demand whenever there is a check.

viii. Student ID cards/borrower cards are not transferable. Books are issued against borrower cards only on production of their own Student ID card.

ix. On completion of course ‘No dues Certificate’ will be issued only on returning of all the materials borrowed from the library.

x. Overdue charges will be collected if book is not returned by due date.

xi. If book is lost borrower is responsible to replace the book or pay latest market price. If title is out of print price will be charged as per Library norms.

xii. No eatables are allowed in the Library.

xiii. Violations of Library rules can lead to hefty fines / debarred from Library.

xiv. Playing games, downloading games, software, music /video files is strictly prohibited in the electronic library area.

xv. Library computers are only intended for legitimate academic purposes, which include but are not limited to information and bibliographic searches, research, class assignments, and knowledge acquisition.
 
B. RULES FOR CIRCULATION
 

The book borrowing policies are categorized into four main groups:

i. Undergraduate Program (School of Business & School of Computing)

ii. Graduate Program (School of Business)

iii. Faculty and Staff

iv. Others, including CPD students, Alumni, and external members

Please note that borrowers are responsible for collecting and returning core textbooks from the library, and no refunds of utilization fees will be provided.

 

C. LATE FINES

The Library charges fine of AED 1per day for overdue books from the students.

D. RENEWALS

Issued documents and other items are renewable, provided there is no demand for the material by other members. Maximum of two renewals are allowed for any issued material.

E. PENALTY FOR DAMAGES/LOST

The cases of penalty for any damaged or lost items will be referred to the Head-Librarian for action and penalty will be imposed as per the policies of SUC.

Membership

Membership Fees

Library fees for SUC students are typically included in the annual fees, in accordance with the institution's policies. Borrowing privileges will become active for a member once they have paid the required security deposit. This deposit will be refunded upon withdrawal of membership, graduation or cancellation of admission, minus any outstanding library dues. 

The outside members will have to pay applicable annual membership with a security deposit of AED 500/= and it has to be renewed each year. The alumni members of SUC can access the library e-resources absolutely free of charge through the portal.

FAQs

Will there be orientation about SUC library for the users?

An orientation will be given to all the Freshmen students of School of Computing & School of Business at the beginning of the semester. The Administration department will advise the date and time for the orientation.
